The Best Time of Year to Go Tandem Skydiving in NJ

Few experiences in life can compare to that of skydiving in NJ. For many, the exhilarating rush of the jump itself is rivaled only by the breathtaking beauty you can see from thousands of feet in the air.

Skydiving near New York, particularly skydiving in the NYC area, provides skydivers with views of unparalleled magnificence. From remarkable skylines to sprawling, deciduous forests to lush vineyards and fields, you can’t beat the variety.

Skydiving in Winter

Combining those amazing views with choosing the perfect time of year is the key to planning the ideal skydiving trip. Each season is met with its own set of pros and cons for skydivers. Winter is especially tough, since temperatures often drop too low to skydive. Though more temperate climates make year-round skydiving a viable option, most dropzones in northern states are shuttered for the season.

Skydiving in Spring

Jumping in the spring, when the land is burgeoning with new life, is one great option. We at Skydive Jersey are just getting started for the season, and our staff is eager to get the new year started off right. However, true to legend, there are April showers to be dealt with, and there is a chance that you may be rescheduled due to rain. But the image of the fresh new blooms and greenery from thousands of feet in the air is more than enough to make up for it.

Skydiving in Summer

Summertime jumps are beautiful, with the green grass and clear skies. The warmth of the season is put at bay when you’re at 13,500 feet, staring at your feet dangling miles above the earth. The air at altitude is roughly 20 degrees colder than the air on the ground, making for a refreshing feeling that rivals jumping into a pool (without having to dry off after). In the summer, we often run into afternoon wind and rain as the air heats up and begins moving and mixing with the cooler morning air, so we highly recommend scheduling morning appointments if possible.

Skydiving in Autumn

Tandem skydiving in autumn, however, tops our list, and is the season of choice for many experienced divers. In northern New Jersey and the rest of eastern North America, the emergence of vibrant colors of fall foliage takes place in mid to late October. This colorful display is among the best in the world.

Visitors from far and wide flock to our area in autumn to enjoy the magnificent display. Seeing the great, sunlit waves of crimson, yellow, and orange from the air adds a whole new dimension to the experience. The “wow” factor is palpable.

In addition to the awe-inspiring visuals, skydiving in NJ in the autumn has other advantages. Fall provides a break from the unpredictable but frequent afternoon thunderstorms of summer. Students are heading back to school, so there are often more available time slots, and holidays such as Labor Day bring extra time off that can be used for the thrill of a lifetime.
